KEEP A SIDE BOYFRIEND.
How many boyfriends do you have?
Well, for me, it’s a matter of who’s asking. Some days I have five, other days none. But today I have two and for the purpose of this blog post let’s call them Tunde and Emeka.
Emeka is the money bag, he makes sure my Instagram-perfect life is maintained. Due to his influence, I can buy whatever I want, whenever I want. He is my sugar daddy.
Tunde, on the other hand, is my honey bunny, with him life is bliss, seamless, and a bed of roses. He keeps my juices flowing and is the only one between the two that’s able to bring me to orgasm. He is my zaddy.
Let’s substitute Emeka and Tunde for our jobs and hobbies.
I am a Registered Nurse-Midwife, and just like Emeka, I am guaranteed a monthly fee. It pays the bills and funds my imaginary Instagram-perfect life.
As a writer, *shrugs* no money yet, but, more than the money I get satisfaction. The kind I don’t get from my job. It keeps my creative juices flowing.
My job, despite how boring it is keeps me sane, and my hobby keeps me excited. Whenever something happens at work, I can already see myself typing away on my phone. I get inspiration from my job to feed my hobby, you can call that a perfect work-life balance.
What then is sex and cash theory?
It’s a concept I got from Hugh Macleod who is the author of “Ignore Everybody” a book I strongly recommend.
He explained that we all need two kinds of jobs
• The one that feeds our creativity or IMO the one that allows us to express our creativity without constraints (Sex)
• The one that pays the bills (Cash)
There is a possibility that one job can be both but that’s not always the case.

Have you ever heard of the phrase never marry your mistress? If no, what that means is, that making a living out of your hobby is great and all until it progresses from a hobby to a job. You will be left with a job and no hobby. It’s either you have a deadline to meet or your employer is a shitty human being and you can’t quit, you know why? Because they pay you.
Overall, this is not always the case as life is not a straight-forward path so the takeaway from this blog post is to keep your hobby.
